Choosing the right location is such an important part of your session, and I make that process as easy and stress-free as possible. I always try to choose the most beautiful location that’s also convenient to where you’re staying, so your session feels relaxed and enjoyable—not like you’re spending your vacation driving all over the island. Shipwreck Beach in Poipu is one of my favorite spots for its cliffs, golden light, and adventurous feel, while Hanalei Bay on the North Shore is always a favorite for its dreamy mountains and soft sunset views. I also take care of the required beach permits for every photo session, and that is already included in your package, so you don’t have to worry about any of the extra details.

I know the weather forecast on Kauai can feel stressful—especially for visiting families who may not be used to our quick-changing island weather. But honestly, 99% of the time, the forecast ends up looking much scarier than the reality, and most passing showers never affect our session at all. Kauai’s weather is incredibly unpredictable, and it’s very normal for rain to come and go quickly throughout the day. Unless we’re dealing with truly unsafe conditions like flash flood warnings or thunder and lightning storms, we almost always continue as planned. If the weather is genuinely too severe to safely photograph, I will absolutely do everything in my power to reschedule your session, and if that’s not possible, I’ll gladly refund you.
For regular passing showers, I keep a very close eye on the radar and usually ask clients to arrive a little earlier than their scheduled session time so we have plenty of flexibility to wait things out if needed. I always bring umbrellas, and honestly, some of the most beautiful sessions happen right after the rain—especially when we’re lucky enough to get one of Kauai’s incredible rainbows.
What you wear can completely change the feel of your session, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident. If you feel good, you’ll look good—and that always shines through in your photos. If you’d like recommendations for hair and makeup artists, I’m always happy to share a few of my favorites that I absolutely love working with. For outfits, darker tones like blacks, blues, reds, and rich earthy colors tend to create a more bold and vibrant look, while whites, creams, and softer neutrals give a lighter, more airy feel. I also love when one person wears a subtle print or pattern and everyone else coordinates colors pulled from it—it photographs beautifully without feeling too “matchy.” If you need inspiration, feel free to browse through my Instagram to see some of my favorite outfit combinations and how different styles photograph at various Kauai locations.
A little personal advice from someone who photographs on Kauai every single day—less is usually more. I always recommend leaving unnecessary items behind and keeping pockets empty whenever possible. During your session, I’ll likely ask everyone to remove sunglasses, take phones out of pockets, and please, no hotel wristbands if you can help it. Those little things may seem minor in person, but they can become surprisingly distracting in photos.
I also gently recommend staying away from the overly matching “touristy” aloha outfits, cheesy fake leis, and souvenir-style flower accessories. Instead, I love incorporating fresh flowers, authentic leis, and natural pieces that feel timeless and truly complement the beauty of Kauai. If you’d like recommendations for florists or help arranging beautiful leis for your session, I’m always happy to point you toward some amazing local favorites. Trust me—it makes such a difference in the overall feel of your photos.
After your session, your images will be carefully hand-edited and delivered through a beautiful online gallery anywhere from just a few days to no more than a few weeks later, depending on the season and type of session. From there, you’ll be able to easily download, print, and share the images included in your package. You’ll also have the option to purchase your full gallery if you fall in love with more images—which honestly happens pretty often. I shoot very candidly and intentionally throughout our time together, and on average, I capture around 100 usable images (including candid moments and details) for every 30 minutes I photograph, so there’s usually a lot of beautiful moments to choose from.
