Wailua is my home, where I have lived my entire life- so its extra special to me. This area was once the political and spiritual center of ancient Kauaʻi, where many of the highest-ranking Hawaiian chiefs, or aliʻi, lived and ruled. The area was considered sacred because of its royal history, important heiau (temples), and its connection to Hawaiian genealogy and culture. Even today, Wailua remains one of the most historically significant places on Kauaʻi.
It's well worth the paddle and hike to experience this area!
